Elysium Trailer – Matt Damon Is A Cyborg In District 9 Director’s New Movie

Now I know I say this about every new sci-fi trailer…that it looks like Halo. But this one really does! As a matter of fact, the director of Elysium and District 9, Neill Blomkamp, was associated with the ill-fated Halo movie several years ago and even directed a live-action short film to demonstrate what his Halo universe would look like.

Having to settle for Elysium doesn’t look so bad, though,

Fast & Furious 6 Ignites Fan Ad Campaign

Fast And Furious 6

The New York Times

When the Super Bowl commercial for Fast 6 came on, the room erupted. When the trailer featured a car killing an airplane someone threw the bowl of chicken wing bones in the air. And when Michelle Rodriguez’s character appeared in the last frame I fainted.

The franchise has achieved a strange and popular allure, running on the kind of horrible-but-awesome plots usually reserved for old-school Schwarzenegger movies, Roadhouse and Taken 1 – infinity.

Writing in The New York Times, Brooks Barnes reports that Universal, the movie studio promoting the film, has seized upon the fan frenzy. Through creative marketing techniques studio executives are trying to amp up the hype and drive up ticket sales. *Cut to Vin Diesel pressing down on the NOS*

Some notable next level marketing: Universal chose not to release a teaser trailer pre Super Bowl and instead initiated a supercharged ad campaign once the commercial aired. The studio harnessed the wild popularity of it’s stars–Vin Diesel, The Rock, Ludacris– who were encouraged to share posts, pictures and tweets that included behind the scenes material. In addition, fans of the series were polled and actually listening to: the movie’s title, the inclusion of The Rock and the return of Ms. Rodriguez are all ideas that came from the crowd.

The New Superman Trailer and M. Night’s Redemption

The forging of the new Man of Steel interests me more than most.  Henry Cavill’s Kal-El, like Gerard Bartler’s Leonidas, was built inside of a dungeon in Salt Lake, otherwise known as Gym Jones.  If you’ve ever wandered over to my other blog you’ll know that I also worship at that temple.

While I’m not a fan of the Watchmen, 300 was a feast for the eyes.  And with Chris Nolan as producer it’s clear that the new Superman will be closer to Batman in style and tone than the abominations that are the recent X-Men and Spider-Mans.

Depending on who you ask, M. Night Shyamalan became unbearable after The 6th sense, or after any movie he’s made since.  (For me it was The Happening.  Mark Whalberg and Zooey “miscast bangs” Deschanel were just awful.)

Bill Simmons of ESPN’s Grantland makes a convincing case that, when you think about it, there are only a few movie stars that actually compel us to buy tickets, Will Smith being chief among them.

I hope this spells redemption for M. Night.

The giant, sprawling landscapes remind me of James Cameron’s Avatar and M. Night’s most recent, The Last Airbender.  My little brother says it reminds him of Halo, a comparison that is always welcome.

WOW. Looks Like Master Chief’s in a pickle. It also looks like he’s had a troubled childhood.

New Dark Knight Rises Trailer TV Spots

The studio gods at Warner Brothers have thrown us a few more scraps before the July 20th release.  New footage shows us Bruce ripping off some P90X, Catwoman shenanigans, as well as Lucius and Alfred getting fresh.

The Dark Knight Rises Trailer 3

WOW WOW WOW. My favorite DKR trailer so far. What I am most curious about and what was downplayed in this trailer was: where will Ra’s al Ghul fit in?
